04.05.19 - Mid Wales

Starting from Wrexham, following the A483 via Oswestry and out towards Welshpool. As it was going to be a full day in the saddle, we stayed on the A483, as opposed to turning off at four-crosses and taking the adjacent road which is much quieter and more interesting. However passing Welshpool and heading towards Newport. The new by-pass was open, cutting 40 minutes off the journey through the town.

Continuing on the A483 to Crossgates, which is nothing more than a spectacular road for biking. Intricate bends, sweeping roads and a must do again road. and then tuning right to Rhayader.

Bikes heaven and haven. Lots of us around and to cater for hungry bikers, very many cafe's for that pit stop.
Leaving Rhayader on the nation Cycle Route 81 towards Devils Bridge.

A single track road in many places but the views are spectacular to say the least. Once joining the B4574 the roads were smooth and beautiful to ride.
Little stop over before heading across the mountains to Devils Bridge. Two Hoots cafe is always a favorite stopping place, sitting next to the railway station, where a restored steam engine takes passengers for a ride up the valley.

Onward to Aberyswyth, leaving Devils Bridge on the A4120 - again a pleasure to ride with views of the sea coming into sight once close to the town. Turning North on the A487 through Machynlleth and then right on the A493 to have fish & chips in Aberdovey.

Shelly's Fish Bar - can't beat it for fish & chips.
Heading North and turning right in Tywyn passed Tal-y-llyn reservoir and heading toward Dolgellau and Bala - Now that's always a road that demands attention with its sweeping bends and fast straights!

Back home after 5:28 ride time and 8 hours out in total
